• Cherokee Nation announces mental health treatment court during Mental Health Awareness Month (fox23.com) — A new Cherokee Nation mental health treatment court based in Tahlequah will soon offer an alternative to jail for people facing substance abuse and mental health challenges in tribal court. Using a $1 million federal grant, the court will combine treatment, cultural activities, and reentry support like housing, IDs, and job training to reduce reoffending among Native citizens.

• Cherokee Nation celebrates kindergarten, 8th grade Cherokee Immersion School graduates (fox23.com) — Cherokee language immersion students in Tahlequah just marked a big milestone, with kindergarten and 8th grade graduates celebrating at the Chota Conference Center. The Cherokee Nation highlighted how these young speakers, from both the Tahlequah and Greasy campuses, are helping revive the Cherokee language through full-immersion classes from infancy through middle school.

• As 20-year-old lawsuit continues, poultry growers and environmental advocates are in limbo (kosu.org) — A long-running lawsuit over poultry pollution in the Illinois River watershed continues to shape life and business around Tahlequah, from former NSU students who remember clear water to today’s growers and outfitters facing uncertainty. As a federal judge rejects proposed settlements, both poultry producers and river advocates are left waiting on appeals that could affect contracts, tourism, and water quality for years.
