📰 News we're reading

1. South Tulsa neighbors organize petition against proposed 12-resident care home (ktul.com) — South Tulsa neighbors are mobilizing against a proposed 12-resident community care home near 61st and Harvard, worried about traffic, safety, and changing neighborhood character. The property owner says it will remain a residential-style facility and needs a special exception to exceed eight occupants. Both sides plan to make their case at a Tulsa Board of Adjustment hearing on September 8.

2. Tulsa City Council Approves Funding for New Mobile Mental Health Team (fox23.com) — Tulsa City Council has approved funding for a new mobile mental health team that will bring treatment directly to residents, especially those frequently cycling through hospitals, jails, and homelessness. Backed by opioid settlement dollars and local partners, the FACT Team aims to reduce unnecessary ER visits and arrests while becoming a permanent part of Tulsa's mental health system if results are strong.

3. Local towing companies on edge after business owners killed at work (newson6.com) — A Tulsa towing couple were recently shot and killed at their business, leaving other local towing operators shaken and rethinking safety at their own shops. A&W Towing's co-owner describes how routine impound work can turn tense, explains how the impound process actually works, and notes that state rules cap what tow companies can charge Tulsa drivers.

4. Tulsa family honors late son with 500-book drive (newson6.com) — A Broken Arrow family in the Tulsa area is honoring their late son Lincoln by collecting 500 books for the library at Country Lane Intermediate School, where he would be starting third grade. Around his September birthday, his mom channels his love of reading into annual community projects, from stuffed animal drives to fundraising for SUDC research, inviting neighbors to help keep his memory active and generous.

5. An oil baron built a 72-room Italian villa in Tulsa, then gave it to the whole city (wheninyourstate.com) — Right in the middle of Tulsa, the Philbrook Museum of Art offers a 72-room former oil baron's mansion, expansive Italian-style gardens, and a nationally significant Native American art collection. Donated to the city in 1938, Philbrook now blends historic architecture, rotating exhibits, and family-friendly programs, giving Tulsans a cultural destination that feels different with every visit.
