7-Year-Old Accidentally Shoots 2-Year-Old In Hermiston: Police
Police have not said how the child got ahold of the weapon before inadvertently shooting the 2-year-old boy in the head.

HERMISTON, OR — A 2-year-old boy from Hermiston is in critical condition after being shot in the head last Friday by his 7-year-old brother, according to the Hermiston Police Department
The incident, which was first reported just before 5 p.m. Nov. 10, is described as an accidental shooting. Police were reportedly notified by the Good Shepherd Medical Center after the toddler was admitted. The child has since been moved to another hospital, Hermiston police spokesman Chief Jason Edmiston said via Facebook.
The investigation so far has revealed the 7-year-old shot the toddler with a .25 caliber Beretta, Edmiston told Patch in an email. Child Protective Services is involved and reviewing the case with the Umatilla County District Attorney's Office regarding possible charges, he said.

The toddler's longterm prognosis "cannot yet be determined," Edmiston said.
“It goes without saying that this is an incredibly horrible incident for the involved family, and the officers who responded, the medical professionals who treated the child, and the community as a whole,” Edmiston wrote on the department's Facebook page. “If you own firearms, we urge you to store them in a safe manner to prevent unauthorized access.”
