CELEBRATE SEPTEMBER!!!! DADWEED will be bringing their Newgrass Bluegrass sounds to the Pacific Maritime Heritage Center for a KYAQ Concert on Sunday September 27th.

Get ready for a musical treat when KYAQ brings the band Dadweed to Newport on Sunday September 27 beginning at 7:00 PM. Advanced tickets are available at www.kyaq.org for $20, or $25 at the door.

Dadweed is an acoustic trio out of Portland featuring Clayton Eiberg on acoustic guitar and vocals, Ian Lindsay on bass and vocals, and Keenan Dorn on acoustic guitar and vocals. Together, they explore the boundaries of traditional bluegrass, weaving and blending in elements of jazz, folk, pop, and R&B.

The group got together playing all night under a willow tree at the 2022 McKensie River Jamfest and made it official in the spring of 2023. Since then, they have exploded on the music scene, playing on a variety of stages including Mississippi Studios, the Bridgetown Bluegrass Festival, and a coveted spot on the Oregon Country Fair Main Stage. Whether at a festival, theater, brewery, winery, or house concert, Dadweed can be counted on to bring their signature blend of energy and soul to every performance.

How did the band get the name Dadweed? According to Keenan Dorn, “You'll honestly get three different answers from each of us, but I sum it up as a bit of an analogy of our musical approach: whether it's fast rippin' ....-kickin' bluegrass, or slow movin' heartfelt americana, we cherish both ends of the musical spectrum the same. So when we thought of the name, it kinda evoked an appreciation of finding your dad's weed – whether it's stronger than hell coming in at 35% THC and giving you a panic attack, or if it's old and dry and crumbly and of little-to-no effect – It's all special and important nevertheless because it came from your dad!! And so I guess that nostalgia is a part of why we play such a variety of styles, cuz we didn't wanna get stuck in one corner of the greater folk music tradition, we want to provide a lil bit of something for everyone!”

And they do that by fusing jazz, rock, folk, pop, and r&b to explore and redefine the boundaries of bluegrass. Through three-part vocal harmonies and exceptional instrumental talent, the trio has earned a reputation for crafting music that captivates and surprises its audiences.

As Rachel Saslow of the Willamette Weekly wrote, “A typical set is grounded in the high kicking, upbeat, fast style that bluegrass is known for, but the band also has a soft spot for slow, heartfelt waltzes.
