Beaverton House Fire Displaces Two People, TVF&R Officials Say

The fire in the Cedar Hills area of Beaverton was first reported around 5 p.m. Wednesday and was quickly upgraded to two-alarm.

BEAVERTON, OR — Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue firefighters on Wednesday afternoon tended to an enormous house fire in the Cedar Hills area of Beaverton that has left two adults and two dogs without a home, officials said.

Around 5 p.m. July 5, multiple callers to the Washington County Consolidated Communications Agency's (WCCCA) 911 dispatch center reported an outbuilding fire on Northwest Milburn Street in Beaverton. By the time fire crews arrived on-scene, the fire had spread from the outbuilding to the house, officials said.

After upgrading the fire from one- to two-alarm, TVF&R crews requested assistance from Portland Fire & Rescue, officials said. Additionally, deputies from the Washington County Sheriff's Office assisted with traffic and crowd control.

Because temperatures across the metro region were still around 90 degrees at the time the conflagration, firefighters had an especially difficult time subduing the flames — though they were able to contain the damage to just the home, leaving nearby residences unscathed.

After battling the fire for more than two hours, officials said, fire crews regained control and extinguished the flames.

Both residents were home when the fire began, but were able to safely evacuate themselves and their dogs. Two firefighters were injured in the incident and were taken to hospital for evaluation, officials said, noting the injuries were considered minor.

Investigators are working to determine a cause in what was the first of two major house fires in Washington County over a 24-hour period.

The second occurred overnight, around 12:30 a.m., in Hillsboro.
