🌱 Fred Meyer Strike Ends + Tigard Apartment Shooting Kills 2

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

(Patch Media)

Welcome to Sunday, neighbors! Ash DeMello here with today's copy of "The Beav" (that's what I call the Beaverton Daily to my editor; I don't think she finds it clever).

First, today's weather:

Periods of rain. High: 42 Low: 40.

Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:

  1. A man and a woman were pronounced dead last Thursday, December 16, after a shooting in Tigard. The incident took place at The Birches apartments (11485 SW Greenberg Road) at around noon. Ronald Terry Stephens, 40, is facing two counts of first-degree murder, according to police. Stephens is said to have known the victims. 2. Planning travel later this month? Beaverton Pharmacy's Wade Irby says rapid at-home COVID tests are hard to come by these days. A negative COVID test is required for some travelers prior to flights. Click over to the article for hints on how to score your test in time for a flight. (KPTV.com)
  3. I'm so excited about Experience Theatre Project's upcoming production of Great Gatsby's Daisy. Creatively adapted into an immersive live theater experience by ETP's founder and artistic director, Alisa Stewart, this production presents a fresh take on the classic novel. Plus, the company promises bootleg beer and wine, bathtub gin punch and more to enhance your 1922 experience. (Broadway World)
  4. And here's your traffic news for the week. Washington County Land Use & Transportation reports that the following areas will be experiencing closures starting next week:
    • Cornell Road, intermittent lane closures from Trail Avenue for 350 feet east from 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM weekdays from December 19-February 11, 2022, for development-related construction
    • Century Boulevard will be closed to pedestrians at the railroad crossing south of Tualatin Valley Highway from 7:00 AM December 20 - 5:00 PM January 7, 2022
    • Blanton Street will be closed between 185th and 178th avenues from 8:30 AM -4:00 PM weekdays from December 20 - April 1, 2022, for the Tualatin Valley Water District water main replacement project. (LUT News)
  5. Good news for shoppers and grocery workers: Fred Meyer top brass have caved to worker demands. Over a thousand Metro-area workers walked off the job on Friday morning, but by early Saturday, the parties had reached an agreement. (UFCW555)
