📰 News we're reading

1. Equine therapy program helps hundreds of youth learn important life skills (hereisoregon.com) — At Trillium Family Services in Corvallis, an equine therapy program is helping more than 200 young people each year build confidence, communication skills and emotional resilience by working closely with horses. A former resident who once struggled with severe mental health challenges now studies psychology at Oregon State University and returns to the Corvallis barn to volunteer, crediting the program with “basically” saving their life.

2. No Corvallis, Those Aren't Flock Cameras, Here's what the City Actually Records (corvallisadvocate.com) — Corvallis officials are clarifying that the new cameras on Walnut Boulevard are traffic detectors, not Flock license plate readers, and that police don’t have access to their footage. The city does use other license plate tools for parking and patrol cars, but says all data is limited and handled under Oregon law. Residents’ surveillance concerns are rising as nearby cities test or abandon Flock technology.

3. Legion Baseball: Docs finish regular season with 4-3 walkoff win over Lewis-Clark (nrtoday.com) — Roseburg’s Dr. Stewart’s Legion team just walked off Lewis-Clark 4–3 to close their regular season and now turns its attention to a state-tournament opener against Corvallis in Medford. The matchup puts a Corvallis squad directly in the playoff spotlight for local baseball fans.

4. Cities that block ICE could lose police, rape kit funding, DOJ says (sanluisobispo.com) — Federal threats to cut Justice Department grants could directly affect Corvallis, where police rely on federally funded body armor and fire officials warn ambulance response could slow without that money. The broader dispute centers on Trump administration efforts to pressure “sanctuary” cities by tying crucial public safety and rape kit testing funds to cooperation with immigration authorities, prompting multiple lawsuits nationwide.
