Lane County ballots back on track after equipment clog (kezi.com) — Lane County’s Elections Office in Eugene has fixed a ballot-sorting equipment clog and is back to processing votes, with updated results expected by 5 p.m. today. Officials say counting machines were never affected, time and date stamps are now logged electronically via barcodes, and all results will remain unofficial until certification on Nov. 25.
   

2. EWEB moves ahead with 2027 budget, planning second water source and major upgrades (kval.com) — Eugene’s utility board is advancing a 2027 budget that funds a second Willamette River water source, major electric upgrades, and more bill-assistance money while still raising typical monthly bills about 7 percent. The plan prioritizes replacing aging infrastructure, improving resilience to disasters, and expanding zero-interest loans and rebates to help local households cut water and power use.
   

3. Eugene police report second burglary within a week targeting homes of Asian business owners (lookouteugene-springfield.com) — Eugene police are investigating two recent home burglaries targeting Asian business owners, including an Oct. 30 break-in near Harlow Road where a resident slept through the crime. Officers say the case resembles past organized burglary rings and urge residents to install hardwired security cameras that can’t be easily jammed, especially if they keep cash or valuables at home.
   

4. McKenzie Pass Highway 242 Closes for Winter Nov. 5 Until June (deeparrival.com) — If you’re planning to drive from the Eugene area toward Sisters or Bend, McKenzie Pass Highway 242 is now closed for the winter as of Nov. 5, with vehicles blocked at the gates until at least June. ODOT advises using Highway 126 and US 20 over Santiam Pass instead, and reminds drivers to expect winter conditions, carry chains, and ignore map apps that still route over 242.
