• New fence planned for Eugene federal building; this one would not block the plaza (klcc.org) — A new security fence is planned around the employee parking lot at Eugene’s federal building, after a previous fence that blocked the public plaza was ordered removed by a federal judge in July. The General Services Administration says the redesigned barrier won’t close off courtyard access, but local activists involved in ongoing litigation argue it could still hinder protest activity and monitoring of ICE operations.

• For one Eugene librarian, a library is more than just books (dailyemerald.com) — Eugene’s library services director Angela Ocaña is using a new five-year levy to expand programs at the Eugene Public Library, from early literacy outreach to book-vending kiosks around town. Her focus on relationships over quiet stacks is reshaping the downtown library into a lively community hub, with new staff, kid-focused initiatives, and even a “library of things” for residents to borrow.

• Elite DB recruit trending toward Oregon will make gameday visit to Eugene (autzenzoo.com) — Oregon Ducks football is drawing top 2028 defensive back Jordan Hicks to Eugene for a high-profile home game against Michigan this fall. The four-star California recruit currently lists Oregon among his top options and says each visit to Eugene strengthens the Ducks’ lead in his recruitment.
