Xfinity Brings New WiFi-Based Home Protection to Eugene Customers
Xfinity Internet Customers in Eugene with an Advanced Xfinity Gateway Can Activate Wifi Shield at no additional cost

For many Eugene households, home WiFi connects far more than laptops and smartphones. TVs, cameras, gaming systems, smart speakers, thermostats, and other connected devices all rely on the same home network, creating more convenience and more potential entry points for online threats. Now, eligible Xfinity Internet customers in Eugene have a new way to help protect those connections without adding another monthly bill.
Comcast has launched WiFi Shield, a new home protection service included at no additional cost for Xfinity Internet customers with an Advanced Xfinity Gateway. WiFi Shield is part of the new Xfinity Shield platform, which is designed to turn a home’s WiFi network into an added layer of digital, home-awareness and family protection.
The service arrives as the average Xfinity customer connects 36 devices to WiFi. Comcast’s network identifies, filters, and blocks an average of 30 million threats each day.

Protection built into home WiFi
Rather than requiring customers to install security software separately on every phone, tablet or computer, WiFi Shield works through the Xfinity Gateway and brings several protection features together in the Xfinity app.

Xfinity CyberSecure helps automatically protect devices connected to the Gateway from malware, hackers, phishing attempts, and other online threats before they reach devices in the home. Because the protection operates at the WiFi level, it can assess activity across the home network and give customers greater visibility when new devices connect.
WiFi Shield also includes an optional feature called WiFi Motion, which uses the Gateway and connected WiFi devices to detect motion inside the home without requiring cameras or traditional motion detectors. The technology detects changes in radio-frequency signals between the Gateway and connected devices and can send notifications through the Xfinity app when it detects unexpected activity.
WiFi Motion does not record video, capture images, or identify individuals. It is designed to provide another layer of home awareness using devices already connected to the network.
For families, Family Settings provide tools to create profiles, organize devices by household member, manage screen time, set device limits, pause WiFi access, and create schedules.
Customers can customize how the system operates using three protection modes: Home Watch, Away Watch and Dark Watch. The modes are designed for different situations, including when customers are home, away, or asleep.
An optional upgrade for additional protection
Customers looking for additional home-security features can upgrade to Shield Select for $15 per month. The service includes all WiFi Shield features, along with an indoor camera, door/window sensor, cloud video storage and 24/7 urgent-response functionality. Its AI-powered camera capabilities can distinguish among people, pets, vehicles, and package deliveries.
But for Eugene residents who already have Xfinity Internet and an Advanced Xfinity Gateway, the core WiFi Shield service does not require an additional subscription.
WiFi Shield became available nationwide today to Xfinity Internet customers with Advanced Xfinity Gateways and can be accessed through the Xfinity app. Additional Xfinity Shield capabilities and experiences are planned for 2027.
For Eugene households already relying on WiFi to connect an expanding collection of devices, the new service is designed to do more than provide a connection. It can also help protect digital activity, home, and family using technology already built into their Xfinity service.
