• This Oregon Museum Is a 19th-Century Chinese Apothecary Frozen in Time With Over 70,000 Artifacts (myfamilytravels.com) — Right in downtown John Day, the Kam Wah Chung museum preserves a 19th‑century Chinese apothecary and general store almost exactly as it was left, with more than 70,000 artifacts. Guided tours, booked through the interpretive center across the street, walk you through seven dimly lit rooms that reveal the stories of Doc Hay, Lung On, and a once-thriving local Chinatown.
   

• Grant County rancher plans and adjusts in the face of drought (bluemountaineagle.com) — A longtime rancher operating about 20 miles south of John Day is reworking his grazing and hay plans as this year’s extreme drought tightens water supplies. With irrigation flows dwindling early, he’s buying hay sooner, rotating cattle carefully across Forest Service allotments, and leaning on modern infrastructure to keep his herd healthy despite the dry conditions.
