• Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events Coming to La Pine, Sisters and Redmond in October (cascadebusnews.com) — La Pine residents can safely dispose of household hazardous waste for free on Sunday, October 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the South County Services Center parking lot on U.S. Highway 97. Accepted items range from old paints and solvents to propane tanks and fluorescent bulbs, helping you clear out dangerous materials while protecting local landfills and groundwater.
   

• Not enough beds for firefighters: La Pine's 1970s station is getting a major overhaul (centraloregondaily.com) — La Pine's main fire station, built in the 1970s and now shifting on its foundation, is getting a seismic upgrade and expansion funded by a nearly $2.5 million state grant. Over the next three years, the project will add safer living quarters, improved infrastructure, and better gear storage, all without requiring additional local tax dollars from the community.
