• Congratulations! It's graduation time for 400 Lincoln County high school seniors Friday and Saturday • Lincoln Chronicle (lincolnchronicle.org) — Newport families can celebrate 118 Newport High School seniors graduating Saturday at 6 p.m. in the school gym, with seven valedictorians and two salutatorians honored. Across Lincoln County, 400 students from six high schools, including Toledo, Waldport, Taft, Eddyville, and Siletz Valley, will also walk the stage in ceremonies Friday and Saturday with specific times and locations set for each.

• Malcolm X College Professor chosen to head out to sea as part of the STEM Student Experiences Aboard Ships—the STEMSEAS program (ccc.edu) — A research vessel voyage this June will sail from Alaska and finish in Newport as part of a national STEM training program for community-college faculty. Chicago-based professor Halle Morrison will work aboard the R/V Sally Ride, learning hands-on ocean science techniques she hopes will inspire more students to pursue marine and Earth science careers.
