Residents can still take Class C drive tests in Newport and are urged to use DMV2U online services while Lincoln City remains closed through June 29, with reopening planned June 30.

Sea lion reported with rope around neck in Newport (kgw.com) — A sea lion in Newport’s Yaquina Bay has been spotted with fishing gear wrapped around its neck, and marine mammal experts are monitoring the animal while exploring difficult treatment options. Because sedating sea lions can cause drowning and this one moves unpredictably around the bay, officials urge residents to report any sightings to the NOAA West Coast Region Stranding Hotline.

Exclusive: Records show cities rack up legal fees over ICE detention centers (san.com) — Newport officials have already spent hundreds of thousands of dollars fighting a proposed federal immigration detention center at the municipal airport, while also battling to keep the Coast Guard rescue helicopter based in town. The investigation details mounting legal costs, outside fundraising discussions, and continued skepticism from local and state leaders despite ICE’s written claim it has no current plans for a facility in Oregon.
   

4. Five Huskies under 100 as boys are 2nd at Mallard (lebanonlocalnews.com) — Newport High’s girls golf team figured into a crowded field at Mallard Creek, carding a 500 team score behind Sweet Home, Philomath, and others in mid-April play.
