Toddler Who Went Missing Now In Protective Care
River was found safe by search and rescue personnel. Ava the K9 is credited with rescue.

The two-year-old who went missing from his home on the 1700 block of Northeast 87th Avenue in North Portland Saturday morning is now in protective custody. River's disappearance led to a multi-agency search.

River was found in some blackberry bushes and is being brought to the hospital to be treated for exposure and scratches. He was found by Becky Irving, a volunteer with Mountain Wave Search and Rescue and her K9 partner, Ava.

He was just about two blocks from his home.
Police had responded to the home around 6 Saturday morning after his mother called saying that she had woke up and discovered he was no longer in bed.

Numerous officers, including a Canine Unit, had been searching the neighborhood, including Rose City Golf Course. The Portland Police Bureau's Air Support Unit will be assisting with the search, weather permitting, and Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue (SAR) personnel are responding to assist.
Details of the case - as happens with all incidents involving child welfare - were turned over to the state's Department of Human Services for review.
On Sunday the decision was made to remove the child from the home. There will be a court hearing on Tuesday to decide the next steps.
