• Large annual algae bloom prompts local groups to cancel events (opb.org) — A large cyanobacteria bloom in the Willamette River near Ross Island Lagoon has prompted Portland groups like Lloyd EcoDistrict and Human Access Project to cancel popular late-summer swim events while they await more testing. State officials say toxin levels don't yet warrant a human advisory, but warn that current conditions are unsafe for pets and could worsen with continued warm, stagnant water.
