  1. Things may be a little painful the next time you fill up at the pump. Portland’s prices at the pump are nearly 84 cents higher per gallon than a month ago, and up $1.88 from a year ago. The average price of gas here in Portland is $5.62, compared to the statewide average of $5.50. The cheapest station in Portland was $5.25 per gallon Monday while the most expensive was $6.27, a difference of more than a dollar. (KATU)
  2. Not only is violent crime on the rise in Portland, but it's rising faster than the rest of the country. "American crime largely remained steady in 2021, according to the FBI’s analysis of crime data submitted by local law enforcement agencies across the United States. Not so in Portland, however, where the number of violent crimes increased 38%. These include homicides, rapes, robberies, and aggravated assaults, all of which happened more often in 2021 than the previous year. So did property crime, which rose 17%." (Willamette Week)
  3. The soccer world was rocked by the news of alleged sexual misconduct and improper handling of reports of abusive behavior within the Portland Thorns organization. That news is drawing a response from one of their sponsors. On Sunday, Alaska Airlines said in a statement it is redirecting its sponsorship funds for the Thorns and Portland Timbers this quarter to the National Women’s Soccer League Players Association's “Support the Players Emergency Trust” and to youth sports in the Portland community. (KPTV)
  4. Portland's communities of color have had an uneasy relationship with the Portland Police Bureau for some time. A plan put together by the Portland Committee for Community Engaged Policing is hoping to change that. The city of Portland is requesting proposals from outside groups to oversee a long-awaited truth and reconciliation commission addressing the Portland Police Bureau’s historic mistreatment of communities of color. (OPB)
  5. An armed robbery in the early morning hours of Sunday led to a pursuit and search in Portland’s Roseway neighborhood that ended with “multiple juveniles” in custody. The robbery in the 5200 block of NE Alberta was first reported around 1:45 a.m., "the suspects reportedly taking off in a vehicle that was later spotted by the responding officers. Several people jumped out of the car and ran when it stopped at NE 78th and Fremont, officials said. An 8-block perimeter was set up and backup officers from other precincts were called in to help."
