• See scores from this week's restaurant inspections (statesmanjournal.com) — Marion County health inspectors recently scored numerous restaurants in Salem and nearby towns, with all listed locations remaining in compliant territory above 70. Several Salem eateries, including spots on Turner Road, Commercial Street, Lancaster Drive, and Market Street, logged minor priority violations involving food temperatures, sanitation, or labeling that owners must correct before the next unannounced visit.
   

• Detroit Lake 'deep drawdown' heads to court showdown this week (tri-cityherald.com) — Salem and Marion County head to federal court Oct. 6 seeking to halt a planned deep drawdown of Detroit Lake they fear could threaten drinking water for 230,000 residents and hurt local tourism. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and supporting environmental groups argue the drawdown is required to help endangered spring Chinook, while critics cite past sediment problems that disrupted nearby cities' water systems.
