Salem teacher fired after allegedly killing person in DUII crash, district says (kptv.com) — A Salem-Keizer Public Schools teacher has been fired after police say he drove impaired on August 3, hitting two pedestrians on a Salem sidewalk, killing one woman and injuring a man. The district says the Stephens Middle School teacher was placed on leave the next day and dismissed September 22, while he now faces multiple criminal charges.
   

2. Homeless campers uncertain of next steps amid sweeps at Wallace Marine Park (kptv.com) — Campers at Salem's Wallace Marine Park are being pushed to leave as the city moves to clear the park by the end of October, citing safety concerns for fall and winter. Around 30 people have already been removed, and many unhoused residents describe losing belongings, struggling to find a new place to go, and facing growing uncertainty as enforcement ramps up.

Visitors to Silver Falls State Park Will Enjoy Upgraded Water System Next Summer (kxl.com) — Just outside Salem, Silver Falls State Park is getting over $1 million to drill new wells and upgrade its water system serving day-use areas, the lodge, and campgrounds. The lawsuit claims staff failed to arrange proper transport or paperwork, while the hospital says it followed policy and Oregon law and expressed condolences.

Oregon audit finds education department oversight gaps slow high school progress (kpic.com) — From Salem, state auditors say Oregon's High School Success program still lacks full oversight and clear data to prove it's boosting graduation rates. The report urges the education department to tighten planning, tracking, and accountability, with officials agreeing to new controls and timelines that will affect funding and support for high schoolers statewide.
