'Springfield, we heard you' Oakshire Brewing location to reopen Friday (registerguard.com) — Oakshire Brewing’s Oakshire Commons taproom on Main Street in downtown Springfield will reopen Friday, Sept. 4, just days after an announced indefinite closure, following strong community support. The taproom is returning with new hours and plans for added coffee service, more food options, and TVs for sports, aiming to remain a welcoming neighborhood gathering spot for Springfield residents.
   

2. Pleasant Hill football eager to build on breakthrough 2025 season (registerguard.com) — Springfield High’s football team opens its season Friday against Bend, part of a full slate of Eugene-Springfield prep matchups this week. Nearby Pleasant Hill is also looking to build on last year’s breakthrough, hosting Amity at home Friday night with several key players stepping into bigger roles.

Lane County businesses encouraged to enroll in fall storm drain cleaning program (kval.com) — Businesses in Springfield and across Lane County can now enroll in a fall storm drain cleaning program that helps prevent flooding and pollution before the rainy season. For $68 per drain, the SCAP partnership with Lane County and local cities offers professional cleaning through Oct. 31, and Springfield businesses are reminded they’re responsible for maintaining drains on their properties.
   

4. Oregon school districts cut costs amid budget deficits, layoffs and program changes (nbc16.com) — Springfield School District is facing a budget deficit more than double Corvallis’s and has already laid off teachers as part of wider cost-cutting across Oregon districts. Local families can expect continued pressure on staffing, school programs, and building use as Springfield, Eugene 4J, Bethel, and Corvallis work to stabilize long-term finances amid declining enrollment and limited state funding.
   

5. Men Wear Pink campaign taps Lane County leaders to raise breast cancer awareness (kval.com) — Lane County community leaders, including several based in the Eugene-Springfield area, are joining the American Cancer Society’s Men Wear Pink campaign to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. Residents can support the effort by donating through each ambassador’s campaign page, helping fund research, early detection, and patient support services close to home.
