• Canadian Sailor Rescued From Dismasted Sailboat off Oregon (latitude38.com) — A Canadian sailor was rescued nearly 500 miles off the coast of Tillamook after his 29-foot sailboat was dismasted in gale-force conditions and he was injured. Using a satellite communicator, he alerted the U.S. Coast Guard, which coordinated with a passing cruise ship to bring him aboard safely and continue on to Vancouver. 
• Campers' nightmare: women escape sex offender who cut open tent (audacy.com) — Two women were allegedly kidnapped from a public hiking trail in Tillamook County, where a man is accused of cutting open their tent, binding them, and threatening sexual assault before they escaped. Federal prosecutors say the suspect now faces trial, and investigators are asking anyone with possible information or similar experiences involving him to contact the FBI.
