$514K Red-Light Grant To Bolster Abington Safety

Abington officials said the state grant will provide traffic safety improvements to four key township intersections.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — The township has been awarded $514,633 through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Automated Red-Light Enforcement (ARLE) program to support traffic safety improvements at several key intersections.

Those intersections serve schools, businesses, religious institutions, recreational facilities, and homes.

Funding will be used for high-visibility crosswalks, rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFB), ADA enhancements, and signage at the following intersections:

The improvements are designed to enhance safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists by increasing visibility and accessibility at these locations. The total project cost is estimated to be $635,474.

The Public Works Department will be performing services to support the construction of the facilities, which will help offset township costs.

Officials said the application would not have been successful without the support of the community, local businesses, and neighbors, who vocalized the need for additional facilities and provided letters of support for inclusion.

Township officials thanked Gov. Josh Shapiro’s administration for its continued commitment to the ARLE program, which provides funding to municipalities for projects that improve safety, mobility, and traffic flow at signalized intersections across Pennsylvania, and for the constant support of its State Reps. Ben Sanchez, Nancy Guenst, and Sen. Art Haywood.
