The big election Tuesday in Abington was the race for school board, where nine candidates vied for the five open spots.

ABINGTON, PA — Pennsylvania's 2019 primary election was Tuesday, with races contested on the county and municipal levels around the region.
In Abington Township, the biggest contested race was for school board, where nine candidates, all of whom cross-filed, ran for five open spots in each party.
Jennifer O'Rourke, Melissa Mowry, Shameeka Browne, Tamar Klaiman, Daniel Kaya, Vico Bertogli III, and Susan D. Arnhold will be on the ballot in the general election in November. There are five open slots.

The present Abington School Board has made numerous decisions of some gravity, handling the retirement of a longtime superintendent, choosing a new superintendent, and a historic donation and the school renaming crisis that followed in its wake.
