Abington Students Receive Congressional Gold
Late last month, 13 Abington Senior High School students received Gold Medals from the Congressional Award Foundation.
The Congressional Award is a nonpartisan, voluntary and non-competitive program, according to its website. The award, established in 1979, recognizes initiative, achievement and service in young people. It is open to all 14 to 23 year olds.
A Gold Medal requires a minimum of 400 hours of service, 200 hours of personal development, 200 hours of physical fitness activities and a weeklong expedition.
Nationwide, 246 students received Gold Medals.

The Abington recipients are Jessica Sands, Emily Crossette, Monica Hobgood, Annie Kim, Devin Gannon, Esther Katro, Andrew Alekna, Carolyn Powers, Taylor Appel, Jane Lee, Daniel Strauss, Lindsay Sheppard and Emily Benson.
