5 Injured In Shooting At Walmart In Cheltenham: Cops

CHELTENHAM, PA — Three victims were shot in the Walmart in Cheltenham on Tuesday night, Cheltenham Police Chief John Frye confirmed in a press conference on Tuesday night. Two suspects are now in custody.

The victims - including two women in their 40s, and one man in his 40s - were all shot in their legs. A fourth victim was grazed by a bullet, and a fifth victim suffered undisclosed injuries that did not involve a gun. All injuries are non-life threatening, and all five are in stable condition.

The incident occurred at around 6:07 p.m., authorities said. The suspects - a man and a woman - got into a altercation with the victims in the cash register line. It's not yet clear what the argument was about. Frye said that the man took a gun from the woman's waistband and began reeling off shots.

At least ten shots were fired, authorities said. The two suspects then quickly fled the scene into nearby Philadelphia.

A short time later, they rear-ended a Philadelphia police SUV near E. Sedgwick Street and Williams Ave. The suspects - particularly, the man - were not cooperative when they were arrested, Frye said.

Frye added that it appeared the male suspect was under the influence of a substance.

"According to reports from the hospital, he's definitely on some kind of drugs," Frye said.

The suspects threw the gun used in the shooting from the vehicle as they fled the scene, and it was recovered by police.

Philadelphia police officers inside the SUV suffered minor injuries when they were rear-ended.

Meanwhile, police continue to comb through the scene at the Cheltenham Walmart Monday night, clearing the area and speaking with witnesses. Following the shooting, Frye said an officer who happened to be nearby saw a large amount of people running from the store. During the panic, a pregnant woman fell and suffered minor injuries, police said.

Authorities said they are not looking for anyone else and that the scene is safe.

The identities of the suspects has not yet been released.
