The 20,000-square-foot store, in the former Bed Bath & Beyond space, held a ribbon-cutting Wednesday and will operate with extended daily hours, replacing a long-missed local book hub.
2. Glenside man ordered to stand trial for attempted murder after striking bicyclist in Abington Township (glensidelocal.com) — An Abington Township crash that left a 22‑year‑old bicyclist critically injured has led to attempted murder and aggravated assault charges against a Glenside man, who's now headed to trial. Investigators say his Jeep jumped the lane and sidewalk on Meyer Avenue, striking the rider who later needed emergency brain surgery at Abington Hospital.
3. Former PSU Abington student sentenced for indecent assault of woman on campus (glensidelocal.com) — A former Penn State Abington student has been sentenced to 18 to 36 months in prison and lifetime sex‑offender registration after admitting to sexually assaulting a woman in his on‑campus apartment in 2024. The case began when the victim reported the attack to campus police, and the defendant later surrendered after U.S. Marshals publicized his photo.
4. State Treasury flagged $1.4B in improper payments; lawmakers say greater oversight needed • Pennsylvania Capital-Star (penncapital-star.com) — State Treasurer Stacy Garrity says her office blocked or flagged $1.4 billion in improper Pennsylvania payments last year, including more than $1 million for security upgrades at Governor Josh Shapiro's Abington residence. Lawmakers now want every agency to regularly review and publicly report on programs most vulnerable to waste, aiming to tighten oversight of taxpayer dollars statewide.
5. Josh Shapiro Makes Lowering America's Political Temperature a Priority (montco.today) — Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, who grew up in Abington and still lives there, is using his local roots as part of a national push to cool political tensions. At a recent Philadelphia event with Utah's governor, he argued for disagreeing without contempt and tied the effort to better digital literacy in schools and his own experience with political violence.
