The Borough Public Works Department picks up the trees and delivers them to Abington Township, where they are ground into mulch with other yard waste. The mulch is then made available to borough and township residents free of cost.
Residents are asked to remove all lights, ornaments, and tinsel before placing the tree curbside so that the process of turning the trees into usable mulch will not be negatively affected.

In a program run by the Jenkintown Environmental Advisory Committee, broken or damaged holiday string lights can be recycled by placing them in the designated recycling bin for that purpose located outside Borough Hall and should not be placed for curbside trash or recycling collection.
