Fallen Tree Kills Golfer At Montco Country Club

A golfer was killed at the JC Melrose Country Club in Cheltenham Township Saturday afternoon, police said.

CHELTENHAM TOWNSHIP, PA —A tree fell on a golf cart at the JC Melrose Country Club Saturday afternoon, killing a golfer, police said.

Cheltenham Township police, EMS, and fire crews responded at 3:06 p.m. Saturday to the JC Melrose Country Club at 7600 Tookany Creek Parkway for a report of a tree that had fallen on a golf cart.

Responders found a person dead in the passenger seat of the golf cart with a large tree on top of it.

An initial investigation revealed that the tree had fallen on the golf cart as the person killed and another person were driving the golf cart on the course while playing golf.

The driver of the golf cart sustained minor injuries, police said.

The Montgomery County Coroner's Office will determine the cause and manner of death upon completion of an autopsy.

The identity of the golfer is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.

This case remains under investigation by Cheltenham detectives.
