Five Candidates Apply For Abington Commissioner
Abington Township was expected to replace Ward 10 Commissioner Jessica Carswell at Thursday night's meeting.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA —The township was expected to have a new Ward 10 commissioner sometime Thursday night.
The commissioners were expected to approve a resolution Thursday night to fill the Ward 10 vacancy created when Commissioner Jessica Carswell resigned, effective Feb. 16.
The township had sought applicants since Carswell's resignation.

Township officials had letters of interest in their packets for the Thursday commissioners meeting from five candidates.
The candidates included Bill O'Brien, Julie Getz, Matthew Flint, Michael Delany, and Christine Young-Gertz.

O'Brien has lived in Abington Township for more than 40 years. Gertz has been a Ward 10 resident since 1999.
Delany said he has more than 20 years in customer support and client service and saw the opening by reading a Patch article.
Flint is a longtime resident and decorated U.S. Army veteran. Getz is a CPA with three young children.
Eligible applicants must be a resident of Ward 10 for at least one year continuously before the appointment, and must be a registered voter in Ward 10.
Additionally, applicants must not have been convicted or pled guilty or no contest to any felony charge within three years of the appointment.
