'High-Performance' Dodge Vehicles Targeted In Abington
Abington Township Police are warning residents about recent crime trends involving the theft of Dodge vehicles and thefts from them.
ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA —Abington Township Police said that criminals are targeting "high-performance" Dodge products in the theft of vehicles and thefts from them.
Police said that recent thefts in the Philadelphia region involve Dodge vehicles, specifically the Challenger, Charger, Durango, and Jeep Grand Cherokee "SRT" and "Hellcat" editions.
The vehicles are often started without the key fob and reprogrammed using aftermarket electronic products, police said.

Abington Police are also noticing an increase in theft from vehicles. Actors in these thefts, appear to be checking neighborhoods for unlocked vehicles and removing credit cards, purses, tools or electronics left inside.
In several cases, the vehicle’s key fob was left inside, which allowed the actors to steal the vehicle itself. These thefts appear to occur predominately during the early morning hours.

Residents are encouraged to remove valuables from their vehicles when parked and ensure their vehicles are locked at all times.
Owners of high-performance Dodge vehicles are encouraged to park their vehicle in a garage, if possible, box the vehicle in with another vehicle, and use a steering wheel immobilization device and/or other vehicle immobilization technology.
Abington Police have increased patrols and are working with other departments to identify and arrest the actors involved. If you have any information regarding these crimes or witness anything suspicious, please dial 911.
Police are reminding residents to:
- Always lock your vehicle, even when it’s parked in your driveway or garage.
- Always take your keys or fob with you.
- Never leave wallets, purses, or other valuables in your vehicle.
- Never leave your car running while unattended or unlocked.
