Kia, Hyundai Vehicles Being Targeted By Thieves: Abington Police

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Police in Abington Township are warning residents of an increased trend in Kia and Hyundai vehicle thefts.
According to police, the national trend has reached Abington Township.
Police noted a targeted increase in the number of thefts and attempted thefts of Kia and Hyundai vehicles.

These vehicles are targeted due to them lacking "electronic immobilizers that prevent thieves from simply breaking in and bypassing the ignition," the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety said.

"Although locking your vehicle certainly helps reduce your chances of being victimized, we have seen a number of incidents where windows have been broken," police said. "In Abington, a number of cases have ended in arrests, but the problem appears wide-spread and still persists."
