ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA —It's a straight shot up Susquehanna Avenue.
From my home in Maple Glen, I can get to nearby Abington Township in a heartbeat.

With the weather warmed Sunday after a day of rain, I took that ride, shooting up Susquehanna and hitting Easton Road, turning right on Route 611, and heading toward Philadelphia.
My colleague Max Bennett, who covers the city for Patch, has handled Abington Patch for more than a year. But since Abington is on the other side of Upper Dublin Township, it was a matter of logistics so we decided that I would cover this Patch going forward.

I know this area. It's a big area since there are so many places that make up Abington Township.
In my 10-plus years living in Montgomery County, I've frequented Abington Township more times than I can remember.
For example, on Sunday night, I ate dinner at Senior Salsa, right across from Jefferson Health Abington Hospital. My doctor's office is there. Before that, my wife and I were shopping at the Target.
Earlier in the day, I walked around Jenkintown, exploring Capricorn Books on West Avenue and buying a book on David Bowie.
I tried to have breakfast at the West Avenue Grill, but the line to get in was over 30 minutes. So I wandered around a bit and snapped some photos, making my way to the Hiway Theater and seeing that they're holding an Oscar Watch Party in honor of hometown hero Bradley Cooper.
I dropped by the Wawa to buy a newspaper and a drink before hitting The Fairway to see what was going on with the retailers there.
I didn't get to Glenside Sunday. But I've been there often. As a big music fan. I've attended more than 20 concerts at the Keswick Theater. It's 12 minutes from my house. I've timed it!
I've even bought my past two cars from Hyundai of Abington and shopped at the Roslyn Giant.
So these parts are familiar, but I do have a great deal to learn about the towns and the issues.
I’ve served as a journalist for more than 30 years and worked for Patch in the Lehigh Valley a decade ago. My other Patch sites are in Hatboro-Horsham, Warminster, and Bensalem to name a few.
I look forward to covering these towns within the township. So I appreciate your patience, support, help, news tips, and story ideas as I get more comfortable.
