Man Charged After Viral Montgomery County Mall Leaping Incident

Felony robbery and theft, as well as terroristic threat, charges have been filed against the man seen leaping from the mall's second floor.

WILLOW GROVE, PA — Charges have been filed in connection with the viral incident in which a theft suspect leaped from the second floor of the Willow Grove Park Mall.

Abington Township Police said Abdi Wasuge, of Tempe, Arizona, was charged with felony robbery and theft, as well as terroristic threats and simple assault in connection with the April 13 incident at the mall.

Authorities allege Wasuge, 30, stole from the Apple Store in the mall.

He implied he had a gun when confronted and threatened to use it, police said.

Wasuge did not have a firearm, police said.

While fleeing the store, Wasuge jumped from the mall's second floor to the first floor, injuring himself.

Video of the incident showed him attempting to walk away, only to fall to the ground and crawl away.

Police showed up and called EMS, who took Wasuge to a hospital.

He was released from the hospital, then taken into custody by Abington Police.

Wasuge is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on May 5.
