Officers Recognized For Breaking Up Burglary In Abington

Abington Police recognized nine police officers for nabbing a suspect who had stolen money from Primos Hoagies on Keswick Avenue.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA —Nine Abington Township Police Department members have been recognized for disrupting a burglary at Primo Hoagies on Keswick Avenue.

Around 2:42 a.m. on Oct. 23, 2023, Abington Police received a report that someone heard glass breaking in the area of 276 Keswick Avenue.

Officer M. Jones arrived on scene and began to check the area at which time he discovered that someone had broken out the rear window to the “Primo Hoagies” and entered the business. Shortly after, Officer Pfau arrived in the vicinity and witnessed a man fleeing from the area of "Primo Hoagies" towards Wharton Road, disappearing from view.

The interior of the business was searched by Officers Howley and DeAngelo and it was determined that there was nobody inside. The cash register was found to be ajar and it was later determined that the suspect that officers had seen fleeing from the area had stolen cash from the business.

A perimeter was established by “C” Platoon members while Officer Pfau, Officer M. Jones, and K9 Shadow began to search for the suspect.

During that time, Officer Hasara observed the suspect on Parkdale Avenue and pursued him on foot.

The suspect ran towards Wharton Road where he was intercepted by perimeter officers and taken into custody without incident. When taken into custody, he was found to have burglary tools and stolen money from Primo Hoagies in his possession.

A thorough follow-up investigation by Lindenmuth resulted in additional charges being filed against the suspect for a previously unsolved burglary from earlier that year at the same location.

Without the clear communication and seamless coordination between the police officers of “C” Platoon and Detective Lindenmuth, the suspect may have been successful in eluding capture, the police department said.

"Today, we highlight members of C Platoon and Detective Unit: Officer Pfau, Officer M. Jones, K9 Shadow, Officer Howley, Officer DeAngelo, Officer Houston, Officer Jerome, Officer Hasara, and Detective Lindenmuth," the police department said.

"All the involved officers displayed great teamwork with one another and worked together to successfully take the suspect into custody quickly and safely," the police department said.
