Slain SEPTA Bus Driver Identified As Abington Resident

Bernard Gribbin, 48, of Abington, was a 12-year employee of SEPTA, an Army veteran, and husband.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — The SEPTA bus driver who was fatally shot Thursday has been identified as an Abington resident, Army veteran, and husband.

Bernard Gribbin died at 10:36 a.m. at Albert Einstein Medical Center after being shot six times on a Route 23 bus at Germantown and Abbottsford avenues in Philadelphia Thursday morning. He was 48 years old.

Gribbin had worked for SEPTA for 12 years, and Action News reports he was an Army veteran and husband. A SEPTA spokesperson told the outlet Gribbin was a hard-working bus operator who was dedicated to serving his community.

Twenty-one-year-old Zhontay Capers has been charged with murder and related crimes in connection with the incident. There is no word on the motive of the shooting incident.
