SEPTA Bus Driver Shooting Suspect Identified, Charged
Zhontay Capers, 21, is accused of fatally shooting SEPTA bus operator Bernard Gribbin Thursday morning in Germantown.

PHILADELPHIA — The woman accused of fatally shooting a SEPTA bus driver Thursday has been identified and charged. According to Philadelphia Police, Zhontay Capers, 21, is accused of shooting and killing of Bernard Gribbin, 48.
Police said she is charged with murder, firearm violations, and related crimes.
Gribbin, a 12-year employee of SEPTA from Abington, was shot six times at about 10:27 a.m. Thursday while sitting in the driver's seat of a Route 23 bus at Germantown and Abbottsford avenues. Police said the suspect, later identified as Capers, was seen getting off the bus and firing a shot at Gribbin.

She then got on and off several times while shooting at Gribbin. He was taken to Einstein Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:36 a.m. SEPTA said at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday that the suspect as taken into custody by its own police force at a nearby gas station.
Capers is scheduled for a Nov. 13 preliminary hearing, according to court records.
