SPS Technologies' New Plans Ready For Review
Abington Township will hold a meeting on Feb. 2 to review the company's plans following a massive fire that destroyed its facility.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Following a massive fire that gutted its building last February, SPS Technologies is ready to rebound and rebuild.
Abington Township’s Environmental Advisory Council and Shade Tree Commission will hold a special joint meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 2 to review the company's land development submission for 1900 Kenmore Avenue.
SPS Technologies is rebuilding its facility as a 350,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art aerospace manufacturing plant following the massive February 2025 fire.

Construction would be targeted for completion in 2028. The new, more automated facility would be 30 percent smaller but more productive, featuring green technology and LEED certification, according to plans submitted by the company.
SPS Technologies revealed the cause of the fire that destroyed its 600,000-square-foot building, blaming it on an explosion inside a compressed air system.

Over 70 area fire companies responded to the fire, which took days to extinguish and prompted numerous community meetings, soil, air, and water testings, and closed key roadways.
Key Details of the Rebuilding Plan:
- Site & Construction: The new plant will be built on the same Highland Avenue site, with construction starting in early 2026.
- Facility Design: It will be about 350,000 square feet, including offices and advanced manufacturing space. The design focuses on sustainability, featuring solar panels and modern, energy-efficient, and environmentally controlled systems.
- Automation: The new facility will focus on automation to manufacture aerospace fasteners, with a focus on higher, more efficient production capacity despite a smaller footprint.
- Operations & Timeline: The new plant is expected to be fully operational by 2028.
