Girl Robbed While Waiting For Bus In Montco, Police Say

Cheltenham Township Police seek three suspects who they say also tried similar robbery attempts at two other bus stops Wednesday.

CHELTENHAM TOWNSHIP, PA —Three people are wanted for a "strong-arm robbery" at a township bus stop Wednesday morning in which thieves snatched a cell phone from a girl after threatening her.

The Cheltenham Township Police Department is investigating the robbery in the 400 block of Asbury Avenue in the township's Melrose Park section around 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police believe the suspects also attempted similar robberies at two other bus stops

A juvenile female complainant contacted 911 to report that the occupants of a black Kia sedan approached her, while she waited for the school bus on Asbury Ave. A male occupant of the vehicle called the complainant over to the car, threatened her, and grabbed her cell phone from her hands.

The victim was uninjured, and the vehicle fled the scene, police said.

A police investigation later determined that the same vehicle/occupants had approached two other bus stops in the area on Mountain Avenue and Valley Road, where similar robberies were attempted.

The suspect vehicle was described as a black four-door sedan with tinted windows, damage to the front bumper area, and an unknown Delaware registration plate.

The occupants were described as two black men and one black woman in their late teens/early 20s. The woman was described as having red or maroon braided hair.

Anyone who can help police identify the suspects, owner of the suspect vehicle, or location of the vehicle is asked to contact the Cheltenham Township Police Department 24/7 at 215-885-1600 ext. 400.

Cheltenham Township residents/business owners with exterior cameras who live or work in the areas of Asbury Avenue, Mountain Avenue, and Valley Road are asked to check their cameras for any relevant images from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police ask that if anyone observes any suspicious activity or persons approaching students at school bus stops to immediately call 911.
