"This year's top 13 lists includes haunts in real haunted asylums to others built into abandoned concrete factories to old turn of the century school houses or deep in the woods where no one will hear you scream," the website reads. "This year's list of the best and scariest haunted attractions has something for every traveling thrill seeker."
Pennsylvania's spook seekers can rejoice at this year's list, as one of the state's most infamous haunts was listed at No. 1 and another at No. 10.
Hauntworld listed Pennhurst Asylum, 1205 Commonwealth Drive in Spring City, as the scariest in the nation.
After decades of existence as a magnet for teen mischief, Pennhurst Asylum reopened a few years back as a haunted house.
The results have been impressive.
Pennhurst is the only haunted attraction where the walk to the house might be more frightening than the house itself.
After navigating dark country roads and parking in a grass field, visitors must walk down a dark and wooded lane to approach the gates of the abandoned asylum.
After the "haunted" portion of the tour is complete (featuring a new attraction, 'The Morgue,' in 2018) there is a chance to walk through historical exhibits outlining the past of the property and modern efforts to preserve it.

At No. 10 was Hundred Acres Manor, 100 Acres Drive in Bethel Park.
