Philly Area’s Surprising Labor Day Weekend Forecast
An unusually long cool front is moving toward the greater Philadelphia region as August ends and cooler months near.
Much needed cooler weather is blowing through southeastern Pennsylvania this week and it will linger throughout the long Labor Day weekend, according to forecasters.
High temperatures will sit in the mid to upper 70s every day between now and Labor Day, with lows dropping into the mid-50s on some nights, the National Weather Service said.
"High temperatures will be well below the historical average throughout the region, even in locations where the sun is shining and there are no showers," Accuweather said. "In areas where the sky is clear and the wind is light, record lows will be possible."

The probability of weather staying cool and below 80 degrees is very high, the National Weather Service said, with Labor Day itself being only day that has a significant chance of being a little warmer.

Forecasters said that spurts of chillier air are not uncommon in late August as the cooler months draw nearer and summer winds down, but the duration of this particular autumnal front, along with how wide its expanse is across most of the northeast and upper midwest, is unusual.

It's particularly unusual in southeastern Pennsylvania, which typically sees highs in the mid to upper 80s around Labor Day, and as high as 93 in 2023.
"The cool nights will allow air conditioners to rest and give residents and visitors to the region a chance to open windows," Accuweather added. "In some places, it may get too chilly for some to keep their windows open, and in some areas, people may turn on their furnaces for the first time in months."
