Father's Day Weekend Forecast Goes Downhill For Eastern PA
The holiday weekend could bring some inclement weather to the greater Philly area.
EASTERN PA — The Father's Day forecast is in precipitous decline for the greater Philadelphia area, with several days of precipitation and potential thunderstorms likely to impact plans for the weekend, according to forecasters.
A storm coming from out of the midwest and south-central states will send moisture north from the Gulf and northwest from the Atlantic. This could be enough to cause "downpours to repeat and trigger flash flooding" in parts of the mid-Atlantic, according to Accuweather meteorologists.
Things look mostly clear and hot this week until Friday, when rain and thunderstorms arrive in the afternoon. Forecasters say precipitation is most likely to begin after 2 p.m., and it's possible it will not fully let up for days.

A chance of showers will persist into the evening Friday, with a tenth of an inch falling Friday night and another tenth of an inch falling again during the day on Saturday. The threat of thunderstorms will loom in the region through around 2 a.m. Sunday morning, the National Weather Service said.
The wettest period is expected to be late Saturday into early Sunday, according to forecasters.

The severity of the rain and any potential flooding in the Philadelphia area will depend on the exact track of the storm in the coming days, though, at minimum, the weekend looks to feature "unsettled" conditions, according to the National Weather Service's Mt. Holly, New Jersey branch.
"Father's Day barbeque plans, a fishing trip or a day at the ballpark or beach could be hampered by downpours and the potential for thunderstorms," Accuweather adds. "The best day at the mid-Atlantic beaches over the next several days is likely to be on Thursday before the rain arrives over the weekend."
After the weekend, the early forecast for next week looks like a continued chance of at least some rain for several days.
