Kamala Harris Will Rally In Philly With New VP Next Week: Reports
Harris is expected to pick her running mate by early next week, and their first appearance together will be in Philadelphia, reports state.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris will campaign in Philadelphia next week during her first rally with her new running mate, whom she is expected to select within the coming days, according to multiple media sources.
The news comes as Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro remains atop the shortlist of favorites for Harris's vice president, and the location of the rally could potentially indicate that Shapiro is indeed the pick.

The Harris campaign reportedly told Politico about the Philly event, which is slated for Tuesday, Aug. 6. It was later confirmed by Reuters and others. It's not clear if the VP announcement will made at that time or in the days before.
It's also not yet known exactly where in Philadelphia the rally will take place.

The Reuters report cited a "strong reminder" that Harris has "made no decision on a running mate."
While this could be so much hand-wringing, Philadelphia remains a popular symbolic choice for presidential candidates to stage major speeches and announcements — in part due to Pennsylvania's obvious importance as a bellweather battleground state, but also because of the city's iconography and colonial history.
Harris will join a long line of Democratic candidates in particular, from Hillary Clinton to Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama, to use Philadelphia to frame some of their most important speeches.
Shapiro instantly shot to the top of the short list for VP after Biden's announcement that he would not seek a second term. Shapiro said he spoke with both Biden and Harris the day of that announcement, and the 10 days since have seen Shapiro spearheading a blitz of pro-Harris rallies around Pennsylvania, including a recent tour from Carlisle to Ambler with Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
The Philadelphia rally with Harris and her running mate will kick off a tour through swing states that will include Michigan, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada.
Harris has narrowed former President Trump's lead in the polls to 2 points nationally, though Trump maintains a 2.7 point lead in Pennsylvania, according to an aggregate of recent polls from RealClearPolitics.
