Penn State Professor Accused Of Sex With Dog Facing 16 More Charges

Authorities said Themis Matsoukas recorded himself masturbating throughout the park, including on picnic tables and DCNR vehicles.

HUNTINGDON COUNTY, PA — A Penn State professor who authorities said had sexual intercourse with his dog last year is facing 16 additional charges accusing him of lewd acts and disorderly conduct at a Pennsylvania state park, according to court documents.

Themis Matsoukas, 64, a professor of chemical engineering at Penn State, was charged in June with numerous crimes, including sexual intercourse with an animal, open lewdness, indecent exposure, cruelty to animals and disorderly conduct.

The original charges were filed after state authorities obtained a video from a camera located outside a public restroom at Rothrock State Forest. The video captured Matsoukas involved in lewd acts with his dog on April 13, according to court records.

Matsoukas now faces additional charges of open lewdness, indecent exposure, criminal trespassing, burglary and disorderly conduct for incidents that occurred on May 16 and May 31, 2023, court records show.

The charges came after authorities retrieved more than 55 videos from Matsoukas' iPad during the initial investigation, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed Monday and obtained by Onward State. The videos were recorded between May and June of 2023, reports said.

According to the affidavit, the videos show Matsoukas nude or naked from the waist down while wearing a ski mask. He is also seen masturbating on a picnic table, porches at camp buildings, on DCNR vehicles, and in a lake, Onward State reported.

Court documents also claim Matsoukas recorded himself inserting a tree branch, a lollipop and the control handle of a DCNR John Deere crawler into his anus during several videos, the report said.

Matsoukas is also accused of defecating on a lease camp property, Onward State reported, citing court documents.

Last year, rangers obtained a warrant to search Matsoukas' home. During the search, Matsoukas was "visibly nervous" and told the rangers "I’m done, I’m dead, you don’t understand, I do it to blow off steam," according to reports.

In a previous statement released last year, Penn State said Matsoukas "has been relieved of his responsibilities and is on leave."

His status remains unchanged, a university spokesperson told Onward State on Monday.

Matsoukas was arraigned this week by Huntingdon County District Judge Douglas Gummo, who released him on $50,000 unsecured bail, the Centre Daily Times reported.

Defense lawyer Matt McClenahen wrote in a text message to the Centre Daily Times that it would be "inappropriate for me to comment at this time outside of court."

A preliminary hearing for the new charges is scheduled for Feb. 21. A pre-trial conference for the case stemming from the original charges is scheduled for April 4, court records show.
