Phillies Legend Lenny Dykstra Arrested In PA

It's just the latest run in with the law for the leader of the beloved 1993 Phillies pennant-winning team.

Former Phillies star Lenny Dykstra, a key cog of the legendary 1993 pennant-winning team known for his controversial off-field persona, was arrested in Pennsylvania over the weekend.

Drugs were in his possession during a traffic stop in Pike County, not far from his Scranton home, the Associated Press reported. No specific charges have yet been announced.

Dykstra confirmed the arrest himself and released a statement from his attorney that denied guilt.

“Lenny Dykstra was merely a passenger in a vehicle that did not belong to him," the statement reads. "Undeniably, the actual driver and owner was taken into custody at the scene under the suspicion of driving under the influence."

The attorney expressed optimism that the charges would be dismissed.

"Lenny was not accused of being under the influence of any substance at the scene, nor was he arrested or taken into custody at the scene," the statement continues. "To the extent charges are brought against him, they will be swiftly absolved."

State police did not specify what drugs were found on Dykstra, and further circumstances surrounding the traffic stop have not yet been divulged by.

It's the latest bit of controversy surrounding the All Star center fielder who entrenched himself in Philadelphia sports history by headlining the magical 1993 run to the World Series.

Once known affectionately to fans as "Nails" or just "Dude," the 62-year-old admitted using banned performance enhancing drugs during his playing career. In more recent years, he's been accused by officials in the city of Linden, New Jersey of illegally renting rooms at his old house. He's been sentenced to jail on theft charges, and has had a series of well-publicized issues with drugs. He was also recently cleared of charges that he threatened to kill an Uber driver.
