Repairs underway at Jaffa Shrine following July break-in (wtaj.com) — Repairs are underway at Altoona’s Jaffa Shrine Center after a July break-in and attempted arson caused more than $130,000 in damage to the historic community venue. While the main auditorium remains closed until early fall, other areas are reopening, and a new preservation fund is helping support cleanup and restoration efforts backed by strong local community support.
   

2. Johnstown teams pick up easy AAABA wins (altoonamirror.com) — Altoona youth baseball fans have plenty to follow as Locker Room and Furrer Beverage opened the Teener Minor League playoffs with big wins at Seitz Field. While Williamsport officials scramble to replace the carrier and argue they were blindsided, Southern says months of unpaid invoices forced the shutdown. Amtrak adds second train connecting Pittsburgh and New York (post-gazette.com subscription) — Amtrak is adding a second Pennsylvanian train later this year, boosting service on the line that passes the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona between Pittsburgh and New York City.
