Ambler Native Wraps up Phillies Ballgirl Term

Moira DiSandro said her experience has been a dream come true.

A lifelong Philadelphia Phillies fan, Moira DiSandro, of Ambler, began her career as a Phillies ballgirl in her freshman year at Villanova University.

According to the Ambler Gazette, DiSandro, now a junior, applied for the position two years ago, hoping her passion for the team and the sport - she played softball most of her life - would help her win the job. The selection process was extensive, but her great personality set her apart and she was selected for one of 15 slots as a Phillies ballgirl.

During the season, DiSandro and her fellow ballgirls interact with fans and collect baseballs as they roll out of play. When they're not on the field, the ballgirls are involved with player charities, work with Macy's for promotions and attend pep rallies and ceremonial check presentations from players to organizations.

DiSandro's two-year stint with the Phillies is coming to an end this January, although she hopes to secure a permanent job with the Phillies. She is studying economics and wants to work in the sports business after graduation.

She says she will miss "everything" about being a Phillies ballgirl, but she'll miss her fellow ballgirls most of all.
