More Than 700 Tested At Montco's New Coronavirus Testing Site

Results have been processed more efficiently at the new site at Montgomery County Community College, officials said.

WHITPAIN TOWNSHIP, PA — Montgomery County's new coronavirus testing site has already tested more than 700 individuals, officials said on Monday.

They also noted that the new site, located on the campus of Montgomery County Community College in Whitpain, has been processing tests faster than they were able to process them at the Temple-Ambler site.

Of the 747 tests that have been given at the Montco site since it opened last week, results are back for about 74 percent of individuals.

Of that group — 550 people — 76 of them have tested positive. This marks a 14 percent positive rate, down from a height of around 24 percent at the Temple-Ambler site on April 4.

The county is pleased.

"It's just another measure to remind you that social distancing is working," Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh said Monday. "But its definitely not time to let up, as you can hear from the total number of cases."

As of early Tuesday, the county said they had seen 2,923 positive cases, along with 164 deaths. More than 60 percent of those deaths have been in long term care facilities. On Monday, 184 new confirmed cases were found, as the virus continues to spread.

The Montgomery County Community College testing was closed early Tuesday afternoon due to bad weather. It will reopen Wednesday.

In addition to the county site, testing is beginning to open up on the municipal level. Residents of Norristown can get tested starting Wednesday at a new site there.
