Pearl S. Buck International Awards Mabel Lew Scholarship

(Hilltown Twp., Bucks County, PA.) - Pearl S. Buck International awarded this year’s Mabel Lew Scholarship to 2014 Lower Merion High School Graduate, Kathryn Constantine during its annual international picnic. The $5,000 one-time scholarship is given annually to a gifted student adopted from Asia and who is enrolled in a four-year undergraduate program.

Ms. Constantine, or “Katie”, was adopted from China and begins her college career as an early childhood education and psychology major at Muhlenberg in the fall. An accomplished figure skater, she said she was inspired by the role models she had during her 12 years as a figure skater and wants to give back to a younger generation through teaching.

“Pearl S. Buck International has inspired me to go after my dreams. It has shown me that no matter where you come from you can achieve success.” Katie explained, “I can’t wait to become successful and then come back to Pearl S. Buck International and give back to them just like they helped me.”

She attributes much of her success to her parents who she describes as supportive in every way.

“If my parents had not decided to come to Pearl S. Buck International, I do not know where I would be. With that one amazing decision they nurtured a girl with amazing persistence, a positive upbeat personality and potential to do great things in the world,” Katie shared in her scholarship application.
