Scammers In Indonesia Attempt To Hijack Virtual Amblerfest 2020

Scammers are taking credit card info for a fake event mimicking Ambler's planned online celebration. Facebook has not removed the event.

AMBLER, PA — Scammers based in Indonesia have attempted to hijack a planned online virtual celebration for Amblerfest 2020, organizers of the real event said on Friday.

The scammers have created a fake event organized by a Facebook page called "Nighty Party 808" that is asking for credit card payment to gain access to a fake music stream.

"All of our events live and virtual are free," Liz Kunzier, Ambler Main Street manager, said in a statement. "Unfortunately, the pirates out there in cyber land have hijacked Saturday's virtual Amblerfest logo and event page and made their own 'livestream concert' which they are charging for."

The fake event, noticeable due to the bizarre font in the title and grammatical errors in the details section, has been reported by multiple users to Facebook, but Facebook had not taken the page down as of early Friday afternoon.

"This group is based out of Indonesia and has nothing to do with Ambler Main Street or Amblerfest," Kunzier added. "So, beware, and know that if it is not free it is not an Ambler Main Street event."

The real, and only, Virtual Amblerfest page is located here. Since the 2020 in person event had to be canceled due to coronavirus, residents are encouraged to order some local beer and food and watch the celebration online featuring highlights of previous years.
