Shanachie Announces Closure at End of Month

The Shanachie Pub and Restaurant in Ambler announced Thursday morning that it will close on March 31.

This morning, the announced on their Facebook Page they will be closing at the end of March.

“You know we love the month of March here at The Shanachie and this March will be a very special one. After 7 1/2 wonderful years, The Shanachie is writing our final chapter. New owners will be coming into our little piece of Ireland here in Ambler and they'll tell their story,” said the post from around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday morning.

The Shanachie was voted Best Irish Pub in the Philadelphia area in 2008 and 2009 by the Fox Philadelphia Hot List.

Facebook user “Ambler 19002” wrote, “It is with a heavy heart that I tell you The Shanachie Irish Pub & Restaurant will be closing its doors as of March 31. I want to personally thank Gerry, Ed and the whole gang for bringing such a warm, friendly spirit to town and for being wonderful hosts, storytellers and musicians. You will be missed!”

The Shanachie will be saying good-bye by having “the biggest and best St. Patrick's month ever” according to their Thursday morning post. The music line up for the month starts with The McKendry Brothers this Friday and Two Quid Saturday; the best traditional session anywhere every Tuesday night, a post-parade party with music by Timlin & Kane Sunday, March 11 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and a full day of St. Patrick’s Day fun planned.
