Wissahickon Gets $60K Grant For School Resource Officer

Wissahickon School District has received a significant grant from the state to maintain their school resource officer.

Editor's note: a previous version of this story incorrectly stated that the grant would be applied for a new school resource officer. In fact, the grant will be used for the existing officer. A second officer has not been hired.

AMBLER, PA — Wissahickon School District has received a significant grant from the state to maintain their school resource officer.

The $60,000 grant comes from the state Department of Education's Safe Schools Grant program.

The grants to maintain and add new school resources officers in districts across the state are meant to "address school violence by establishing or enhancing school security."

There are four Safe School programs who announced funding winners this week: equipment grants, program grants, grants for school police officers, and grants for school resource officers.

More than $2.4 million in grant funding for new resource officers was announced this week. Two other Montgomery County districts also received $60,000 for the same purpose: Hatboro-Horsham and Norristown.
