12-year-old Trumpeter is Finalist in International Competition
Ardmore resident Aidan Peterson's love of music earned him a coveted spot in a prestigious music competition.

Philadelphia trumpeter Aidan Peterson has achieved a major feat after becoming a finalist in the 2018 Ictus International Music Competition. Not only is 12-year-old Peterson in the finals, he’s one of just eight in the age 13 and under bracket.
The competition received entries from 13 countries and 13 states. Winners will be announced on September 1. The innovative new online competition for solo trumpeters of all ages is a unique way for musicians to receive feedback from a jury of renowned trumpeters from around the world. Among the judges is David Bilger from the Philadelphia Orchestra.
As a Primavera Artist, and because of the support from this non-profit organization, Peterson was able to enter several music competitions this year. He placed second in the North International Competition and received a special judges prize in the Harmony for Peace Competition. He was also a finalist in the PBS Celebration of Music talent show.

“It is an honor to be able to support the growth and success of a young musician who works so hard and gives back so much to his community. We are extremely proud of Aidan," commented Rachel Segal, Executive Director of the Primavera Fund.
During the Delaware County Youth Orchestra’s 2017-18 season, Peterson was the youngest member of the group. He is a rising seventh grader at The Shipley School where he is a member of the Honors Combo, Jazz Band, and Orchestra. He is most widely known for his service to veterans. Since 2015 he has been the youngest volunteer bugler for Bugles Across America – an organization that provides free live Taps at military funerals. He also performs the National Anthem before sporting events at Harcum College.

Peterson is no stranger to the jazz scene either. He recently performed at the Lancaster Avenue Jazz Festival as part of the Master Class Series. This summer he was also part of the University of the Arts Pre-College Jazz Institute, playing alongside high school and college students.
